What’s possible with Ubuntu on Mainframe?

Recently announced support for Ubuntu 16.04 LTS on IBM LinuxONE and z Systems has created a paradigm shift in a world that often does not see much change.
Systems that cannot fail, systems that the world relies on, systems that are typically running legacy and costly “old-school” software applications, can now take advantage of the vibrant open source world and still guarantee the same reliability, availability and security. The major difference is now modern applications, and the developer community behind them, can run on the most reliable hardware in the world at a fraction of the cost.
The current era of computing has shifted away from large, monolithic applications. Big Software – where applications are now written in agile components, spread across multiple systems, for scalability and resilience – is taking over. Organizations that are unable to adapt and manage complex software interactions at scale will be at an economic disadvantage as modern, open source environments using application modeling tools like Juju will succeed.
Independent, but interconnected workloads, will go from hundreds to thousands, across drawers and systems, making application modeling an absolute necessity from an operational perspective. Juju makes design, deployment and modification of workloads at scale possible without editing a single script or configuration file. That level of operational intelligence built into the framework of the solution, is a must to achieve economic viability with Big Software.
IBM LinuxONE and z Systems represent the highest level of managed scalability, both horizontally and vertically.. With Ubuntu, these systems can now take advantage of the modern software architectures needed to continue to meet the demands of the fast-paced, rapidly evolving, Big Software era.

What’s the risk of unsolved vulnerabilities in Docker images?
Recent surveys found that many popular containers had known vulnerabilities. Container images provenance is critical for a secure software supply chain in production. Benefit from Canonical’s security expertise with the LTS Docker images portfolio, a curated set of application images, free of vulnerabilities, with a 24/7 commitment.
